Do you ever wonder when the adults are coming back to Washington? The debacle of the Stimulus, the crime of earmarks in the Omnibus, theft of the proposed Cap and Tax, and the attempted seizure of our healthcare system – are evidence that all three branches of government dominated by Democrats are stuck in much more than just stupid – they are stuck in mountains of debt and inefficiency.

You wonder, What are they thinking? No one illustrates this better than Joe. Come to think of it, is there anyone like Joe? While speaking before a group mostly composed of seniors, he addressed the issue of cost in healthcare:

“The status quo is simply not acceptable — it’s totally unacceptable,” Biden said. “And it’s completely unsustainable. Even if you wanted to keep it the way you have it now, we can’t do it financially. We’re going to go bankrupt as a nation.”

He said he understood that it may seem counterintuitive to some people.

“When I say that, people look at me and they say, ‘You’re telling me we have to spend money when we’re going bankrupt?’” Biden exclaimed. “The answer is yeah, that’s what I’m telling you.”

Biden noted that Medicare and Medicaid, unless changes are made, “will eventually grow larger than what our government spends on everything else in the world combined.”

Of course Joe defeats himself with his argument: everyone knows that if you are speeding toward bankruptcy, massive spending is not the answer. But he also defeats his argument by addressing Medicare and Medicaid. If the government couldn’t manage Medicare and Medicaid effectively, but managed it out of control, what will it do with our entire healthcare system?

Come to think of it, the government has failed to manage anything effectively. Whether Social Security, Welfare, Education, Medicare and Medicaid – those in federal government have been much more concerned about power and reelection. So the emphasis is on short term goals that give reasons for reelection and the growth of government, instead of the looming disasters that await us in the future.

Talk about growth of government: here is the chart prepared by House Republicans that illustrates the coming bureaucracy of a nationalized healthcare system:

The claim by the Obama administration, that costs will be offset by preventive care, was blown out of the water by the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) in testimony before the Senate Budget committee:

Senator Conrad: Dr. Elmendorf, I am going to really put you on the spot because we are in the middle of this health care debate, but it is critically important that we get this right. Everyone has said, virtually everyone, that bending the cost curve over time is critically important and one of the key goals of this entire effort. From what you have seen from the products of the committees that have reported, do you see a successful effort being mounted to bend the long-term cost curve?

Elmendorf: No, Mr. Chairman. In the legislation that has been reported we do not see the sort of fundamental changes that would be necessary to reduce the trajectory of federal health spending by a significant amount. And on the contrary, the legislation significantly expands the federal responsibility for health care costs.

Of course this doesn’t cover the most important issue about the whole matter – this bureaucratic machine of Obamacare will stand smack dab between a patient and their doctor.
