Barack could use some lessons from Ronald Reagan in how to deal with Iran, Honduras, North Korea, Russia, Pakistan, little hugo – well I guess the list could go on and on. Elected as the most inexperienced President in U.S. history, the warning from Joe Biden during the presidential campaign is even more chilling: Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy [Obama]…I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate.
The President has been so busy apologizing for America, bowing to King Abdullah and shaking hands with little hugo that he has forgotten that you do not overcome tyrants and evil in the world – by apologizing for America, bowing to King Abdullah, and shaking hands with little hugo.
You overcome tyrants and evil in the world with superior ideas, moral clarity and from a position of strength. Ronald Reagan understood the superiority of freedom and democracy, America as a light of freedom in the world, and the importance of strength to protect it.
Reagan certainly has the credentials. He and Gorbachev signed the INF (Intermediate range Nuclear Forces) treaty in 1987. It was the first treaty between the Super Powers to destroy nuclear weapons and enforce on site monitoring. The fall of the Berlin Wall, the crack up of the Soviet Union and the collapse of communism in Europe was largely the result of Reagan and his policies – all without sending our men and women to war.
Reagan knew that the only way to get your opponent to the bargaining table in order to achieve peace was to have a bigger stick. With the strength of a free market economy, he began an arms build up that the Soviet Union could not match. The controlled economy by the Soviets couldn’t afford such a build up to compete – it couldn’t compete with free markets under normal circumstances.
President Obama is actually setting the course of our nation in a different direction: crippling our economy in the name of global warming with Cap and Trade, and reducing military spending during a time of war.
Barack’s failure to support the Iranian’s fight for freedom and his stand for the Honduran tyrant against the people of Honduras is telling: he seems to be sympathetic to totalitarian governments. He is placing himself on the wrong side of history.
Check out this video from the 1980 Reagan presidential campaign. Insert Barack Obama for Jimmy Carter and you have it about right for today. But I’ll take it one step further: insert a Republican and this message with the integrity and the moral character to back it up – will win the presidency 2012.
