Pictures say much more than words, don’t they?
Father’s Day weekend for the Obama girls included a ride in the presidential motorcade to get frozen custard from The Dairy Godmother on Saturday afternoon. Twelve dark vehicles wound thru small side streets to the Del Ray section of Alexandria, Virginia, a suburb of Washington.

Although the flavor of the day was posted as butter pecan, the President ordered a small cup of vanilla frozen custard with hot fudge and toasted almonds.
Sasha, his youngest daughter went for the big chocolate brownie sundae with frozen yogurt, hot fudge, a cherry, sprinkles, and whipped cream. But, the full cup seemed a bit too much and she asked her father to scoop off the whipped cream onto his own treat.
Malia, the oldest daughter, ordered a waffle cone and vanilla custard.
The president paid with cash and then sat down with his daughters to enjoy the treat. Through the big plate glass window he could be seen visiting with other customers, holding a few babies, and posing for pictures with them.
The crowd that had gathered outside the shop, during the 15-minute visit, cheered as the first family exited the frozen custard shop.

The president was seen carrying a white bag to his car, which Liz Davis tells us contained frozen puppy pops for Bo, the first dog. Bo can expect to dine on pumpkin, and peanut butter and yogurt frozen treats tonight.

An estimated 3,000 marchers — some chanting “Death to dictatorship!” — marched directly onto a blockade of security forces keeping them from approaching Azadi Square, where Mousavi gathered hundreds of thousands of people on Monday.
Police first fired tear gas and water cannons at the protesters, witnesses said. Then came a second wave. It included volunteer militiamen on motorcycles chasing down demonstrators.
Witnesses claimed some marchers were beaten with batons by security forces or metal pipes wielded by the militiamen known as Basijis, who are directed by the powerful Revolutionary Guard.
An old woman cloaked in a head-to-toe black chador shouted, “Death to the dictator,” drawing the attention of Basij members who ran from the other side of the street and clubbed her, according to one witness contacted by the AP.

That’s a cheap shot to show Obama eating some ice cream while a revolution goes on in Iran. It’s as bad as showing Presidents Bush Jr. & Sr. going on vacation playing golf while the troops are fighting in Desert Storm and the seige of Baghdad.
I agree it was a cheap shot whoever did this. Life is going to continue on. The ice cream shot was a slam…not a dunk however.
Hey Ky!
Life will continue on? What about those killed in Iran? Now there is a caring and compassionate statement.
What do you think Iranians think about the President’s actions?
C’mon Jim, lighten up on Ky.
The point is that if you’ve got a problem with this President, then make a rational argument; otherwise, just admit that you can’t be objective because you hate the guy. Don’t cloak it under the guise that suddenly you see a problem with Obama’s political insensitivity because he’s tasting ice cream with his kids on Father’s Day. Do they even recognize that gesture over in Iran? Where’s the caring your talking about now?
If your intent on a lil compassionate U.S. governing, then what your implying is that our President should always be seated in the Oval Office, because they’re ruthless murders happening in China, N. Korea, South Africa everyday; oh, and don’t forget about our friendly neighbor to the South.
Let’s keep it real Jim, your politically boxing the guy in, and any other future Republican president for that matter: with the notion that we must hesitate over our most trivial actions because we might be demonized by the international community for being insensitive to other problems in the world.
Don’t go the yellow journalist/blogger route… Jim, even muckrakers have standards!
Hey Steve!
Look at the blog again: I purposely left commentary out (except for the update). I wanted folks to draw their own conclusions, which has been very telling to me.
Please don’t judge – I don’t hate Obama at all. I pretty much pray for him every day. I just disagree with his policies, and I choose to exercise my 1st Amendment rights.
Understand that my parents lived under atheistic communism and under the boot of the Soviet Union. I can still remember the stories of my mother watching her friend killed with other people in the streets during the Hungarian Revolution. I can still remember my Dad (who was a freedom fighter) crying, still feeling the pain of watching a Russian die in front of him (who was the enemy).
Life just doesn’t go on.
Please read my blog, The Obama Moment: What Iran, Golf, Ice Cream and Hungarians have in common as to the significance of Obama’s actions this past weekend.
And by the way: he took the girls out on Saturday and played golf with Joe on Father’s Day.
Jim,
Your right I am bit quick to pass judgment, and I now understand your zealous position is grounded in an up close and personal experience with communism, but the latter means that your inclined to being a bit too liberal on foreign policy matters. So, I am just attempting to reel you back in with a conservative reminder that a minimalist approach overseas is a great way to conserve some of our country’s most precious resources.
Peace brother.
I am not talking about military intervention. What I am talking about is a reasoned response from the President of the United States in the the support of freedom and democracy – as Reagan responded in support of Solidarity in Poland and his masterful speech at the Berlin Wall.
Obama doesn’t seem to think this way.
And do you think the young girl lying on the street in Iran, gurguling on her own blood….was this a cheap shot for the Iranian police to shoot her?…Is it a cheap shot for the President of the United States to take a big “Yawn” before he responds to the pleas of these desperate people? Obama is a weak, inefficient leader. Ice cream was appropriate to eat but not to be seen in public. But then of course Obama is all about “publicity” and “hollywood”…Obama is NOT president material…call him yours not mine. And, I stand by this.
This isn’t a cheap shot at all. Obama is the President of the United States and the leader of the free world. For right now, that is his first priority. If he doesn’t like it, he can look for another job.
He had to know what kind of impact this would make – he did turn it into a photo op. No one is saying that he shouldn’t do anything with his girls, there is all kinds of fun things that you can do with daddy without sending the wrong message.
I can’t remember the golf thing about Bush and Bush. But it is interesting that you brought it up – Barack and Joe played golf on Father’s Day.
I thought you were republican….all these comments are geared towards Obama…. how sick… this man is taking us down and you will be right there…your prayers wll not help.
Hey Mari ana!
Most of the comments are by Obama supporters because the Obama supporters made most of the comments. Read my stuff – you will readily see that I do not support the President’s actions.
I am a conservative and will be working for a Republican House in 2010 and a Republican presidency in 2012.
Notice that I did not write any commentary – I wanted the pictures to speak for themselves. So I find the reactions and comments by Obama supporters very telling. It really is the phrase: “methinks thou dost protest too much.” Their overreaction tells me that they know Obama made a mistake. I believe he made a grand mistake.
We all want him to spend time with his girls – but he didn’t have to do it with a motorcade and a photo op at the ice cream shop, holding up a bag of doggy ice cream treats.
If you think the president needs to start another war overseas then I want to see YOU over there fighting for that war you so believe in. Obama is doing all he can without interrupting the peoples protests. I didn’t see other countries intervene when blacks fought for their civil rights and were beaten in the streets of America. I didn’t see other countries intervene when women fought for their rights as well. The people of that country know what they are doing and are fully capable. They’ve overthrown their government (without help) in the past and I have confidence they will do it again. Let them be. We do NOT need to interfere.
And about Obama getting ice cream with his daughters; I sure as hell wish my dad was around to do that for me, but he’s spent the majority of his time in prison. I grew up with my mother and sister, without a dad. I’m glad Obama is spending time with his family and being a FATHER. You should know what that’s like, huh?
Hm, why are you at home with your daughter for Fathers Day when you could be in Iran fighting for the innocent people losing their lives?
What Jarret?
He’s doing what? Everything? Sprinkles do not take down dictators. Slivered almonds on custard does not bring that woman back to life. She was braver than wherever he was born Barry Hussain Obama ever was.
When will you Obama-trons get it? He is one of them, a Muslim fanatic sympathiser, educated in an Jakarta, Indonesian radical Islamic school known as a madrassah. How long can your ignorance flourish? The media assisted Cult of Obama has this woman’s blood on it’s hands.
Most of these people just want to criticize the president no matter what he does. “But God, who knoweth the minds and hearts of people will judge each and every one of us.” Get your hearts right with God. There are more innocent people dying every day in a country that is our neighbor. Are you eating ice cream while that goes on? But like I said, God will be our judge.
America wake up, it could happen here. This spineless excuse for a President wants to be friends with the president of Iran. He has to run to the UN to do anything about North Korea. He said, we will find a church to attend when in DC, yet where is he.
He himself fails to provide his hard copy birth certificate, he spends your childrens and grandchildrens retirements. You stand by and say well give him a chance. Change is coming indeed. Watch the videos, and the protesters. Do you realize there is no 2nd ammendment right in Iran? No personal ownership of firearms. Ask the Poles which were overrun in one week? Ask the Jewish people what happened. Ask my Dad if he were still alive what he found when his unit came upon a concentration camp. Wake up America, what you see could well be US!
Dave, sorry I couldn’t help myself, I am a life long Republican who now looks at his party and sees that social issues have overtaken the core conservative principles we used to stand for. We used to think that sending troops overseas was a liberal use of our resources, but now it seems that we’ve taken the nation building approach to everything we see wrong overseas. Bush Sr. was brilliant in getting the world to back his venture into Kuwait – a tour in the USMC made me think that it was a waste; look at gas prices today- rather than unilaterally securing our interests in the Persian Gulf. Slow the rhetoric bud: spineless? W was in the National Guard? And 2nd Amendment overseas: who cares? Besides, you really want those people with weapons – they stone their women when they screw up? We can’t transplant our values overseas, bud.
You two don’t have any idea how the world is. You just want to sit in your comfortable cocoon with your ears plugged and your eyes blind-folded. You don’t believe in helping others enjoy the freedom that you are taking for granted. (You might not have any more freedom, if Mr. Obama keeps doing what he is doing.)
No one is asking His Highness to start a war. All people want is for him to have some moral fortitude and stand up for what is right. He is always talking about the little people, but he is a fraud. He loves to huddle up with dictators. I think he secretly admires people like Castro or Chavez. His silence during the Iran demonstrations was telling: He doesn’t believe in Freedom. He believes in power.
As for your comment, Jarret, I take offense, as a black person, at your use of black people to make your asinine point. Having people from other countries supporting the civil rights movement was not getting in the way, it was legitimizing the movement even more. Just as a president of France or a prime minister of Great Britain stated that he supported blacks in their struggle, a few supportive words from Obama would have been appreciated by the Iranian people. The Iranian government wouldn’t have appreciated, but who gives a rat’s ass about them?!
Death to the Mullahs! And down with rudderless people like the two above.
By the way, we should be stoking a revolution there in Iran. If the Iranians get rid of the Mullahs and its puppet president Ahmadinejad, and have a real representative democracy, we wouldn’t have to worry about their nuclear ambitions. This could get rid of one of his problems, a problem that is showing that he is the pure amateur he really is. He is weak in international affairs (and frightening in domestic affairs.
So a man takes his daughters out for ice cream on Fathers Day and gets slammed? I would think that even in Korea; this would not be viewed as a crime Michelle. It is not our job to dictate to the Iranian government what needs to be done. The Iranian people can handle the situation themselves and figure it out for themselves. I for one as a former Marine suggest that we let others handle their own business. I know that you probably owe your freedom to American intervention in Korea Michelle, but that doesn’t make intervention the right thing to do at all times. God bless.
Hey Rick!
It’s not about taking his kids out on a Saturday – he is the president of the United States and leader of the free world. If Reagan took your advice there still would be a Soviet Union and a communist Eastern Europe.
It is up to the leader of the free world to stand for freedom. Reagan understood this. We are not taking about military invasion here – the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union was accomplished without a shot.
Hey Jim!
Comparing Iran to the Soviet Union is like comparing apples and oranges. The Soviet Union was a threat and superpower that could match us and put up a tough fight. Iran is a country that I will concede is dangerous; but realistically poses no militaristic threat. I do not think they should have the capability to produce nuclear weapons, but if they decided to line up against US Marines; we would destroy them in a New York minute. I suspect that many of these Iranian protestors do not want war or even pose a threat to the western world. It is not in OUR best interest to put OUR stamp on the quasi revolution going on over there. Why give the regime an excuse in propaganda? ie; ‘It’s not us; it is the meddlesome Americans’ Let these Iranians win this civil war themselves. It is not your, mine or President Obama’s concern. I do advocate arming these protestors through different channels; but nothing public. As for your argument for freedom; yes I believe every human has a right to be free. However, when we don’t apply that standard to every country and only the ones that have natural resources we can use; that argument runs shallow. If the ‘right’ was so concerned; we’d be in Burma and scores of countries in Africa fighting for justice and freedom. I just hate to see American servicemen/teens used as cheap pawns. I will never regret my service and am fiercely proud of being a US Marine; but I think it is wrong that we are used in the name of procuring ‘freedom’ for other nations when clearly we’re only used for procuring natural resources. Thanks and God Bless!
I keep checking for a response Jim and it seems you have none. Come on Jim; I know you spare no haste in responding to Democrats; but are you really that hesitant to square off with a Marine? I don’t blame you. Politically minded people on the left or the right wouldn’t have the guts to join the military and if they did; they’re usually weeded out by the first few weeks. How about you let the Commander in Chief and your troops do the decision making; especially since your ass isn’t on the line.
Hey Rick!
I am not talking about military intervention. I specifically referred to Ronald Reagan and his stand against communism. Bush2 would also be a good example in backing the elections in the Ukraine against interference from Putin.
Notice that I also mentioned the eastern bloc of Europe under Soviet control. My father was a freedom fighter in Hungary against the Soviets in 56.
Being a person who is in the military, I am surprised at your lack at having a grasp of the situation here. Iran touches both Iraq and Afghanistan – where our troops are at war. I would think we have an interest here.
If Iran can make inroads towards a democracy, it would have the possibility of making an impact towards peace in the region. Iraq and Afghanistan would be more secure. Pretty simple.
Iran wouldn’t be taken out in a New York minute because Obama wouldn’t authorize it. The issue is Israel – if Iran dropped a nuclear weapon on Tel Aviv, there would be no reprisals. Obama would just refer it to the U.N.
Let’s face it – the Middle East does not respect girlie men.
I have no problem in letting the Commander in Chief and the military do their jobs, as long as they remember that they are answerable to “We the People.” We fit the bill and send our sons and daughters to the battlefield. In this country, “We” are the boss.
It would be good for you to remember that.
Jim,
I’m in agreement with you up until you make the supposition that a democratic Iran would be good thing for us – and yes I know that the likelihood of two Democratic countries warring against each other is a good statistic for our National Security – but transplanting democracy to a Middle Eastern country is not necessarily a good thing: Hamas was voted into power is a great example of group think gone amok for the uninformed masses.
Blood in the streets of Iran.
Stock market in turmoil.
Debt and deficit balloon.
Obamacars, Obamacare, Obamacrap continues.
Obama eating ice cream.
Obama at golf.
When will the Obama nightmare end?
Those here that believe Barry need not make decisive statements in support of freedom in Iran are sorely missing the point that America (used to?) represent freedom around the globe. The current Barry (can’t find that birth certificate) thinks otherwise. Or isn’t keen on being in the forefront. Why not? And, who will now?
