A Bit About Catholic Self-hate

What follows is a letter I wrote in to a popular newspaper in the UK called the Daily Mail. Because my letter is pro-Catholic there is not a cat in hells chance they will publish it, so I made no particular effort to make it appropriate to a letter’s page.

The Daily Mail is about the only newspaper to be pro-Christian but it still is anti-Catholic. I refer to two articles in this blog. The first by Stephen Glover was excellent and talked of the anti-Christian bias of the BBC. The second was an article later in the paper failing to challenge an outrageous calmany against the Catholic Community.

I hope it gives food for thought.

Dear Daily Mail

I commend the article by Stephen Glover (DM May 13th 2009. p.14). The anti-Christian bias from the BBC is truly shocking to anyone even half aware of the serious issues involved.

As a Roman Catholic I flushed with shame in discovering the the Director General of the BBC Mark Thompson is a ‘devout Catholic’ and yet allows the trashing of the faith to continue unabated. Unfortunately, I have seen this attitude from professional people who are openly Catholic many times.

The reason is this: They are ashamed of being Catholic and aware that if they admit to being of this faith (and loyal to it) they would not be given the job, never mind the chance of promotion. The fact is, if Mr Thompson allowed his faith to emerge in any way he would not be Director General of the BBC. He would be an unemployed, pot-bellied man left to rant bitterly at the TV screen every night.

I know the Daily Mail is the most pro-Christian newspaper available, but even you in an article on page 27 in the same addition inadvertently gave the reason for Catholic shame and self hate.

In a Sunday newspaper [The Sunday Times] on February 18th 2007 it was documented that we now know that there was a communist plot to taint the reputation of Pope Pius X11 (who was the Pope during WW11). In your article you do not question the idea that the Catholic Community were somehow connected to the Nazis and had something to apologise for.

Despite the atheist propaganda, there was no organisation on earth that did more to help Jewish people during the war than the Catholic Community. After the war there was a sea of gratitude and love for the Church. She was praised by all who were there, people ranging from Albert Einstein to Leonard Bernstein. Issac Herzog, who was Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem after the war said, “The people of Israel will never forget what His Holiness and his illustrious delegates…are doing for our unfortunate brothers and sisters in the most tragic hour of our history…”

Well “not forget” until the communists got at them. I know you will not print this, and Catholic people will continue to hate themselves and be hated by others, but if the truth were to be told and upheld by newspapers such as yours, much peace would be spoken rather than the lies that cause hate to be our conquerors.

Maybe that gives some indication of why Mark Thompson worships like a dove and keeps his job like a serpent.

UPDATE: On May 18th a small amount of this letter WAS published. I make no complaint about the shortening as it made it appropriate to a letter’s page. However, the newspaper made no mention of their own part in the slandering of our beloved Holy Father.

Good job I didn’t say I would eat my hat if they published any of this. partly because I don’t actually own a hat and partly because munching away at a hat, even with ketchup, does not sound particularly tasty. I could be wrong, of course lol.
