Is Obama a bigot? What if he said that about the “guys”(terrorists) at Gitmo?

President Obama is known for all the “firsts” that his presidency represents. Last week was a perfect example – have you ever seen a President of the United States offend so many people in such a short period of time?

1) The President’s pension for parties at the White House is offensive when so many are going through hard times. (Of course we remember the “Big Party,” that cost a $170 million).

2) He offended Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, when Obama rescheduled their meeting because of the Saint Patrick’s Day parties. Of course this reminds us when he offended British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and on top of that, gave him a bunch of DVDs for a gift. The reason he gave for his behavior? He didn’t get enough sleep. (Mr. President, please party responsibly!).

3) He offended Coach K at Duke (including all the other Duke fans), for picking his rival North Carolina to win the NCAA tournament. But to do his picks in a special interview with ESPN, during the turmoil of the AIG bonuses – offended many more.

4) Obama’s appearance on Leno offended folks two different ways. First: let’s face it – it denigrated the office of President of the United States down to the level of a night time guest. But the comment about his bowling score and the Special Olympics, is in a class by itself.

5) The ‘creepy” interview on 60 Minutes. He responded with laughter, after questioned about people going through hard times. This offended people who are going through hard times. And it did creep a lot of us out, that he used his gallows humor.

6) His press conference on Tuesday night. Isn’t boredom offensive?
Softball questions are offensive to our intelligence. It really does take it over the top, if afterward you listen to news people talking about it all over again.

I know the tendency is to quickly judge, and just write off the guy. To be fair, let’s try to understand the new President, to see why one person can offend so many people in so many ways.

First, if you are a narcissistic party guy, who believes himself to be the messiah – who better to celebrate you, than you?

Second, he is the most inexperienced President elected to the office. I admit that he can’t be faulted on this one. How can we blame him for something that other folks did, by electing him in the first place?

Third, He may not be the brightest apple off the tree. I have seen him without his teleprompter – not a pretty sight. Compare him with Sarah Palin, who delivered a flawless speech at the Republican Convention – with teleprompter problems.

Fourth,
The teleprompter itself. I understand that technical issues can be a problem: but the teleprompter has been quoted as saying – that it didn’t have anything to do with anything, that might be construed as offending anybody. I guess we have to take the teleprompter at it’s word. (Though I hate to see it replaced by that big TV monitor).

I think you could consider the above reasons, and think that the President could really benefit with some professional coaching, and a little counseling. Maybe Comrade Michelle could help arrange all that.

But the Special Olympics comment is another thing entirely (can you imagine the reaction if George Bush said that?). This is beyond the realm of the stupid. This comment reveals what’s deep inside, something that we may refer to as a Freudian slip (though I am not Freudian, my name is Jim).

I am convinced, that this guy, who is supposed to represent change and civility, and even has children’s books about him – is a bigot. I know this might be shocking to some. How could I use such a strong word? But consider if Obama had made a comment about another group of people. Let’s take a second, and think about it.

What if he referred to:

    1) a racial group?

    2) sexual preference?

    3) the “guys” at Gitmo? (They could be living in a neighborhood near you!).

    4) public school teachers?

    5) leftist radicals like Bill Ayers and Ward Churchill?

    6) union bosses?

    7) how about the Doom Team of Pelosi, Reid, Frank, and Dodd?

    8) Hollywood elites?

    9) his pals at ACORN?

    10) people who believe in global warming?

    11) the guys and gals at MSNBC?

    12) Putin?

As you can see, his words actually targeted the very identity of a person – how are those kids supposed to feel, when the President of the United States feels that it is OK to target them? What about their parents and their families?

May I ask you a question? Would you make such a stupid, insensitive, and bigoted comment? I rest my case.
